Learning for Life
The Y Ballarat Community Impact Report 2024/2025
Playing a part
For Karla, joining the Parent Advisory Group (PAG) at Bayswater North Kindergarten was more than just an opportunity to contribute to her child’s kindergarten, it was a chance for personal growth.
What began as a way to get involved, quickly turned into a transformative experience.
“Making wonderful friends and realising I was not as shy as I thought I was, has been such a gift,” Karla reflected. “Volunteering has truly brought out the best in me.”
Enhancing kindergarten environments
One of the most rewarding aspects of her involvement has been fundraising. Knowing that the money raised directly supports the kindergarten whether for toys, new equipment, or special projects fills her with pride. “Seeing the children’s faces light up when we are able to provide new toys or play equipment makes it all worth it,” she said.
A learning experience for all the family
Beyond the immediate benefits for the kindergarten, Karla has also noticed how her commitment to helping out has shaped her children’s outlook. “I think my involvement is teaching them that we should help out whenever we can,” she explained.
Over the past two years, her children have seen her actively contributing and, in turn, have started to reflect that spirit of generosity.
Her son, who started Prep this year, has even taken on a leadership role by joining the student representative council at his school.
“I know it’s because he loves to help,” Karla shared proudly. “It’s something he’s learned from watching me.”
Through her time as a PAG member, Karla has not only strengthened her kindergarten community but also created lasting lessons for her children about friendship, contribution, and the joy of helping others.
