Life Skills
Job Readiness

Techniques for putting a Resume together and practising interview skills can make all the difference when seeking that first job.

Our Life Skills sessions focus on job readiness, offering a range of activities to help young people enhance their employability and prepare for entering the job market.

Delivered through local secondary schools, workshops included practical tips on how to write a resume and cover letter through to developing written and communication skills, practising mock interviews and taking part in peer reviews.

Building confidence

Rose* didn’t know where to start when applying for a job but after the Life Skills’ Interview and Resume Techniques session was so excited to come back and tell our Youth team that she had been hired to work at a local fast-food restaurant!

For Rose, it was more than taking that step to apply – it was about knowing what options she had. It was about having access to a computer and the knowledge that she could look for job opportunities online. It was about knowing where to look and having the confidence and support to send in an application.

“I enjoyed pretty much everything about Life Skills,” Rose said. “The workers at the Y were great and taught me a lot of useful things I’ll need to know. I would love to see more of these programs at schools.”

Expanding opportunities

The Life Skills program pilot at Ballarat High School has been such a success it has expanded to other schools.

Whether they’re applying for a job or demonstrating a boxing move, growth takes shape when young people choose to step up, show up, and learn.
