Learning for Life

The Y Ballarat Community Impact Report 2024/2025

Growing today
ready for tomorrow

At Y Kinders, we see every opportunity, every new kindergarten, partnership, or project as a chance to learn and grow as an organisation. As Victoria’s largest sessional kindergarten provider, we are deeply committed to ensuring all children can access high-quality early education, wherever they live. This commitment is strengthened by our belief that learning is not just for children, but for us as an organisation too.

Informed by our communities, evolving in expertise

Each of our 93 kindergartens brings unique insights, shaped by their communities, families, and educators. We actively listen and reflect, using these experiences to continually enhance our practices and improve outcomes. As new services join the Y Kinders network, we draw on our collective knowledge to support smooth transitions, while also embracing what we learn from each community to inform and evolve our approach.

Our partnerships with local governments and the Department are critical to this journey. Together, we’re not just expanding in size, we’re expanding in capability. The opening of new services like Dorrington Kindergarten (January 2025) and the transformation of existing ones, are not just infrastructure projects; they are learning experiences that shape how we plan, implement, and support growth. Redevelopments have also deepened our understanding of how to create learning environments that meet the needs of today’s children and communities. Over the last twelve months, we’ve been excited and proud to welcome families into the following upgraded kindergartens:
      • Ashwood Memorial Kindergarten (City of Monash)
      • Dover Street Preschool (City of Monash)
      • East Ivanhoe Preschool (Banyule City Council)
      • Lucas Kindergarten (City of Ballarat)
      • Red Cliffs Kindergarten (Mildura Rural City Council)
      • Ward Avenue Kindergarten (City of Monash).

Building a sustainable future

Sustainability has become a key area of organisational learning, influencing our decisions on building materials, energy use, and engagement with local contractors. These practices not only reduce our environmental impact but also enrich the learning environment for children, helping them understand the value of caring for the world around them. Through every project and partnership, Y Kinders continues to evolve, guided by our purpose, shaped by our communities, and committed to learning at every step.
