20 Years of Y Youth Services

Amongst many anniversaries, a very significant one was the milestone celebration of 20 years of the Y Ballarat Youth Services.

From humble beginnings in 2004, when Youth Services first became incorporated and operated out of YHQ on Armstrong Street South in Ballarat, we’ve come such a long way. Each step of the journey has been about building a stronger, more vibrant community for young people in Ballarat and beyond.

Growing and innovating

Over the years, we’ve seen the programs change and evolve to match the needs of young people. 

The ReCranked program has firmly established itself in the hearts of the Ballarat community, clocking up over 10 years of recycling and refurbishing bikes.

Expanding with an educational focus, ReCranked in Schools re-engages hundreds of children and young people each year.

Bags of Joy brings Christmas cheer to those aged 12-21, providing gifts to those who may otherwise go without.  At the core of everything we do, has always been our belief in the power of inspired young people, 

Despite the challenges of recent years, Youth Services has continued to grow and innovate, launching Jump Start in 2020 and hosting the Pride in Schools event in 2022, which has become an annual fixture in the Youth team’s calendar. More recently, we celebrated the opening of the Loft in 2024, a dedicated space for the Youth and Community Services team to work with and for young people.

Two decades of empowering young people

Throughout these 20 years, we’ve remained steadfast in our mission to empower young people. Every initiative reflects our commitment to building safe spaces where youth can belong and thrive.

A celebratory event with current and past staff, Y Ballarat Board and Life Members, guests from Y Australia and the community was held at Barkly Square in Ballarat in November 2024.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our staff, volunteers, partners, and, of course, the young people who inspire us every day.

So, here’s to 20 years of creativity, connection, and courage. And here’s to the future, because together, there’s so much more we can achieve.
